Hi Tree Huggers,
I’ve been seeing more tree problems in the lawn areas. Trees need space between them and the grass it’s becoming more important as our weather changes. Lawns are wetter in the winter and hotter in the summer, roots compete for resources.
Trees like a fungal dominated soil, lawns like bacteria dominated soils, so trees need room for their roots.
Trees also like other woody plants under them, like in the woods you see huckelberry and other companion plants. Trees don’t like it to clean under them either, when we clean up all the little twigs and leaves were are taking food from their mouths.
Trees don’t like lawn chemicals, they harm the roots and the soil biology. Lawn fertilizers have high nitrogen levels, trees don’t like high nitrogen.
Trees are picky eh?
