Most trees can with stand the SW wind we usually get but from another directions they can stress. Have your trees looked at and make a plan with a Certified Arborist to have them worked on. I always say feed them any way, but some trimming can do wonders for a safe wind storm. I make a… View More

Lawn fertilizers and chemicals like weed n feed are really bad for the environment and belive it or not bad for plants too. When you want to feed some thing in nature, look at ourselves. Do you only eat 3 things all the time? No trees don’t like junk food, they want some organic… View More

Trees in Turf

Hi Tree Huggers, I’ve been seeing more tree problems in the lawn areas. Trees need space between them and the grass it’s becoming more important as our weather changes. Lawns are wetter in the winter and hotter in the summer, roots compete for resources. Trees like a fungal dominated soil, lawns like bacteria dominated soils, so trees need room for their roots. Trees also like other woody plants under them, like in… View More

Working with a diseased Maple

Last week I was out consulting a family retreat center on some tree issues that have cropped up on the property. The biggest problem was a roughly 100 year old maple which had become diseased over the past couple of years due to a number of factors. The tree was there before the people, this is usually the trees biggest problem. People start making “improvements” to the area where the tree lives and trees see improvements… View More
